A useful wedding budget is a planning tool, not a promise that every number will stay unchanged.

Begin with the total you can afford

Write down the amount you can comfortably commit, then separate confirmed contributions from estimates. Leave room for taxes, service charges, tips, and a small contingency.

Create categories before choosing vendors

Start with broad categories such as venue, food, attire, photography, music, flowers, stationery, transportation, and lodging. Add estimates before you start comparing individual vendors so a single exciting quote does not redefine the whole plan.

Track estimated and actual costs separately

Keep the original estimate visible, record the current quote, and note deposits and remaining payment dates. This gives you a clear view of where you are choosing to spend more and where you can rebalance.
